What is HIA? • A combination of procedures, methods and tools by which a policy, programme or project may be judged as to its’ potential effects on the health of a population and the distribution of those effects within the population. (WHO 1999) • HIA aims to inform and influence decision- making to enhance the positive impacts of any decision and reduce (or eliminate) any negative impacts.

Aims and Objectives • Aim – to consider the health impacts of the Healthy Start vitamins with regard to Vitamin D across Greater Manchester. • Objectives– to consider: • The health impacts of universal supplementation of population sub groups such as: ☼ All pregnant women ☼ All women - postnatal (up to a year after birth) ☼ Children up to their 4th birthday • Identify potential barriers to access Healthy Start vitamin supplementation 3. Examine potential health impacts of the universal supplementation across the defined population sub groups.
