A Dynamic Church with Sore Knees and Tired Hands1 Timothy 2:1-8 • The Importance of Prayer in the Church 1Tim. 1:1 “You can do more than pray after you’ve prayed, but you cannot do more than pray until you’ve prayed” A. D. Gordon To say it is important is an understatement. To say it is the only thing the church should do would be an overstatement. BUT it is the most important activity in the church!

  2. 2. How Should we Pray?1Tim. 2:1b,8 a)-“Requests” –Supplication= telling God our desires and needs. b)-“Prayers” = means worship and adoration. Praise and thanksgiving. The general term for prayer. c)-“Intercession” = requests for others.

  3. d)-“Thanksgiving” =appreciation for what God has done. Phil. 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. e)- With Love (Without Anger and Disputing) v.8 d)- With clean hearts and lives (Lift up holy hands) v.8

  4. 3. For Whom and What Should We Pray?1Tim. 2:2-7 a. For those in authority 1 Thess. 4:11-12 11Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 12so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
