P/J Math Week 2 Session 2Into the Details… • “A lesson would normally have three parts.... [whatever] names are used, the lesson still benefits from these parts” (Small, ch. 4, p. 73). • We will be spending some time exploring the 3 – part lesson, with an extended third part (Ontario template) • Assignment 2—Clarification needed • Please find your Course Outline, and go to assignment 2 details... • Delete the statement, “...but it must be unique to the Section Sign-up . . . P/J Math Problem Solving:Patterning and Geometry Context • Problem Solving—Small group activity (40 minutes) • Using manipulatives • A Problem! • Go to EDUC 4274 Resources in Franks’ website • http://faculty.nipissingu.ca/dougf/ • Open “North Bay October Workshop Menu 1” • Scroll to p. 8: Pattern Block Families • Pattern Block Families (Three-Part approach) • BEFORE: Read the problem (all 4 bullets) • DURING: Small Group Work • AFTER: Post and discuss as a full class
P/J Math Problem Solving:Patterning and Geometry Context • Pattern Block Families ... continued • Each table group will need: • Bag of pattern blocks (see manipulative bins) • Sheet of chart paper • Marker(s) • You have 20-25 minutes to solve-show all work on paper • Then post your work on board… • We will discuss!
P/J Math Week 2 Session 2 • Next Class: • Continue focus on Problem Solving • Teaching Through Problem Solving (TTPS) • Three part lessons • Ministry Template • Geometry Context • Reviewing some concepts • Problem Solving assignment (Set I) due Sept. 25
