  2. Birth • He was born on January 29th 1843. • His parents were James McKinley (1783-1847) and Mary McKinley (1788-1847). • He was born in Niles, Ohio.

  3. Childhood • He moved to Canton, Ohio at the age of 10. • He was a good student at a private Methodist school in Canton. • College was short for McKinley because of health problems and financial difficulties.

  4. Marriage • He married Ida Saxton (1847-1907). • They had two children. Ida McKinley and Katherine McKinley who died very young.

  5. Presidency • He was a president from 1897-1901. • He was a republican • He had two vice presidents; Garret Hobart who died in office in 1899 and Theodore Roosevelt.

  6. Death • McKinley was shot in the chest and died 7 days later. • He was assassinated by a man named Leon Czolgosz.

  7. Military Service • He joined the civil war at the age of 18. • When the war ended McKinley was at the rank of Brevet Major.
