During his presidency, the United States engaged in a calculating war in Cuba, and a bloody struggle over American control in the Philipines
He volunteered for duty in the Civil War in 1861 and served under future president, Rutherford B. Hayes. He saw action at the battle of Antietam.
Following the war, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1867. He soon took up practice in Canton, Ohio
McKinley’s “Front Porch” campaign was unique. Instead of the candidate touring the country, the voters went to him.
McKinley’s presidency was one of great economic growth and extraordinary development in foreign affairs.
Nothing marked his presidency more than the Spanish-American War in 1898.
The conflict lasted only a few months, yet America emerged with control of Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Philippines
Such changes brought the United States to the front as a major world power
