Safety Valve History The History of Safety Valves • 1681 Denis Papin develops the first safety valve for a degister • 1856 John Ramsbottom invented a spring loaded safety valve • 1866 The „Dampfkessel-Revisions-Verein“ (steam boiler inspection society) and later TÜV was founded in Germany • 1880 Foundation of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) • 1919 Foundation of the National Board (NB) of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors • 1924ASME Code for unfired pressure vessels • 1997Pressure Equipment Directive PED 97/23 was published in order to harmonize the different European standards for pressure vessels 1681 1856 1866 1919
