  1. We live in a world This is a subheadline WE NOW LIVE IN A TRAVEL ECONOMY #globalvillage

  2. Tourism is one of the major industries worldwide The total number of tourists worldwide increases around 6% every year Export earnings by category 2017 in US$ billion International tourists arrivals by year in millions Chemicals Fuels Description 1 International Tourism Food Automotive Products 2000 2010 2017 2018 Tourism Exports = 7% of total exports 682,1 950,8 1.404 https://ourworldindata.org/tourism http://cf.cdn.unwto.org/sites/all/files/pdf/unwto_key_figures_barom_may2019_en.pdf

  3. The negative sides of current tourism The island of Boracay was shut down for six months in 2018 after 1.7 mio tourists per year 2017 April 2018 Before Tourism 2014 For six long months and counting, Filipino mother Olive Abenera has been struggling to feed her four young children. The 32-year-old has been out of work since April when President Rodrigo Duterte shut down what he called a “cesspool” island in need of rehabilitation. While she could survive by eating less, her one-year-old infant needed nutritious food and essential baby items such as diapers. Her other children, the eldest of whom is eight, have been skipping school because she cannot afford their transport and meals. “We have been suffering for so long. I have four children. How can we survive with no income?” she said, fighting back tears. “I am very angry and sad.” https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/southeast-asia/article/2171261/boracays-back-cleaner-and-greener-somethings-missing-jobs

  4. The solution to fulfill a global demand Align tourism with UN’s SDGs in an easy way SDGmatrix4tourism Data collection Data from different sources is used to gain insights about tourism industry: Satellite images, social media, blogs, open data, structured data, mobile data, data provided by destinations • Transformation • AI and Big Data tools are used to transform the data into information, set a spatial and temporal context, and to align it to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. • Main applications of AI include • Image analysis of Copernicus satellite data • Sentiment analysis of blogs, social media and comments on websites • Time series prediction • Using AI to create a complex model for the correlations and use explainability and interpretability approaches to gain insights Prediction AI capabilities are used to predict future development in the spatial and temporal context Data driven | AI enabled | cloud based

  5. First results of the prototype in development The prototype is created with the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development PCSD in the Philippines In this example machine learning was used to find a mathematical model for a manually defined index for a specific destination (White Beach in Boracay). The resulting model was applied to the measurements of the other destinations (and exponentially smoothed for convenience). If the index of the other destinations can be validated a regional model for the impact of the tourism industry towards sustainability might have been found automatically.

  6. The solution to fulfill a global demand A platform is needed that every participant of the tourism industry can connect to B2B API for B2B Provide an API for the tourism industry to provide information to be integrated in their business processes. API for B2B Example use in OTA web site Analytics for B2G Provide analytic capabilities to help destinations understand tourism and its interactions with the SDGs. Web portal for B2C To show the potential of our services and to gather information for later use. B2C B2G

  7. Summary Objectives and goals We are a globally acting startup based in Paris that will provide an AI-driven platform to align the global tourism industry with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help drive positive social and environmental change. Please find detailed information in the attached presentation. Current status What we have already achieved: • We conceptualized our approach • Started to partner with destinations for creating a proof-of-concept • Got very positive feedback from relevant stakeholders, which include potential customers and institutions like UNWTO (UN World Tourist Organization). Our vision:Using AI to make sustainable travel simple Currently bootstrapped and looking for financial support Selection of organisations already involved or contacted: High-level overview and current status Wearethewinningteam of theGlobal Startup Weekend Artificial Intelligence in Paris 2018
