Why Heat Networks in the UK? • Roughly 44-46% of energy consumed for heat • Three quarters of this is for household, commercial and public buildings • Vast majority is used for space and hot water heating • Most met using gas-fired boilers • Generating this heat equates to roughly 1/3 of UK greenhouse gas emissions

Why Heat Networks in the UK? • The Carbon Plan: to meet 2050 targets we need less Carbon intensive ways over the long-term to heat buildings • Heat Networks are a cost effective contribution to the UK’s decarbonisation target • Urban Areas they are a affordable low carbon solution • At present 2% of heat supply • Models show a range of deployment projections from 14 - 43% by 2050
