WHAT IT IS… • IT IS A SPECIFIC GROUPING OF STUDENTS BY A COMMON CHARACTERISTIC • IT IS AN IN DEPTH LOOK AT WHAT STRENGTHS AND AREAS FOR GROWTH YOUR STUDENTS POSSESS • IT IS A PLANNING TOOL FOR MEETING THE NEEDS OF ALL STUDENTS
WHAT IT IS NOT… • IT IS NOT A SEATING CHART • IT IS NOT A HOMOGENEOUS GROUPING • IT IS NOT A GENERAL OVERVIEW • IT IS NOT GROUPING ACHIEVERS WITH THOSE WHO STRUGGLE
LIKE WHAT? Think about the strengths of your students. • What is their predominant learning style? • How did they perform on a given assessment? • What is their language acquisition level? • What is their understanding of academic vocabulary? • How often do they volunteer to participate? • Content specific capabilities
DON’T FORGET… • Completely fill out the top portion of the form including all requested information • Identify your focus students with capital letters • Identify the criteria for the groupings • Make sure all students are represented.
