Dante uses this basic structure for most of the journey through Hell: Dante and Virgil arrive in a new place Dante asks what sin this group has committed Virgil explains the sin and what the contrapasso is Dante lists some of the well-known people in this circle, and describes what he sees and what he hears. Dante goes up to talk to one or two of the residents of the circle, and gets their story They leave for the next level, and Dante shares his thoughts Dante’s “Spotlight” Structure

Today you will be analyzing different quotes from Canto 5 Each group will present the following: -Who is the speaker? -What is he or she speaking about? -Identify any people mentioned in the quote -Find 3 images that illustrate your quote -Pick one vocab word to teach the class -Discuss any connections to anything else we’ve read Groups

  4. Group 1 - 5.7-24 Group 2 - 5.37-49 Group 3 – 5.50-82 Group 4 - 5.88-102 Group 5 - 5.115-138 Groups

  5. Homework Please read the excerpt from the Tale of the Son-Jara and address the EQ on the turnitin discussion board.
