Teaching Timetable • Teaching: • 4 x 2 hour tutorials • Dermatology Workshop • Ophthalmology Workshops • Opthalmology Revision Session • Acute Emergencies lecture • Suturing Skills Session • Antibiotics Skills Session • Blood Culture Skills Session • Prescribing • Haematology Revision Session • Pain Control Skills Session • Blood Transfusion Skills Session • Death Certification • Exempting Exams Revision: • Mock OSCEs – sign up • Rotating Skills Weekend – sign up • Local Revision Timetable – sign up Everything is on MedLea – check it regularly!!!!

  5. Dermatology Teaching Year 5 • Dermatology Seminar Days • September / Oct to all students • 6 key areas • Clinic experience • See patients with consultants • First come first served basis – deadline 5pm Friday 9th August • Contact Amy.Pearson@cmft.nhs.uk

Blocks 5-8 • Student Assistantships will be allocated • You can request to go to Wrexham • Options pack will go online in October • Allocations will be available by the end of November • Forms will be slightly different to Blocks 1-4: • You only need to submit options for the block that you are NOT on your Student Assistantship • CHECK if the placement is available in your free choice Block

  7. Blocks 5-8 - Teaching • Prescribing • Handover • Human Factors Training • Professionalism Teaching • Full revision programme for anyone sitting finals

Portfolio • Review 1: – November for all students • Review 2: • On StEP Blocks 5 & 6 • Will be signed off during portfolio review week • On StEP Blocks 7 & 8 • Will have your second review before you go • Will not be signed off until you have uploaded your reflective piece • Will need to email your academic advisor (portfolio tutor) to tell them you have uploaded your reflective piece and everything is signed off AND validated on MedLea

Accommodation: • Automatically allocated for Nobles, Glan Clwyd & Wrexham – details are in your placement pack • Oldham, Tameside & Fairfield – can be requested but not guaranteed deadline 5pm Friday 12th July 2013 • If you receive accommodation and do not use it there will be a charge • Nobles: • MRSA swabbing – go to occupational health at the University a minimum of 4 weeks before you are due to leave to get swabbed • There is a Nobles guide written by students available on our Website

  10. Supervisor Assessment Forms and General Tips

Supervisor Assessment Forms: • Must complete Supervisor Assessment forms 1 AND 2 for the following placements: • Teaching Hospitals • District General Hospitals • Community placements • Student Assistantship – separate student assistantship form to complete – signed off by medical school • StEP – must complete the StEP Supervisor Form and submit it by the set deadline

Placement Supervisors: • Contact all supervisors before you start for additional reporting instructions • Tell them if you have got an induction on 1st day • Arrange a weekly meeting to outline agreed aims and objectives • Make sure you have a meeting during the last couple of days of placement • Give feedback! • Get feedback!

  13. Assessments • Can submit straight on to MedLea or get paper copies signed and then submit online. • Take down the following information: • Email address – this should be trust / @doctors.org / @nhs.net • Grade • Ward / department details • Contact number / bleep • If you get all of this information there shouldn't be any problems when trying to get the forms verified on MedLea • Tutors WILL forget who you are • Submit forms as soon as you have completed the assessment or placement, don’t leave it!

  16. Final Points • Don’t forget about feedback! We need it to improve the programme and you need it to be a good doctor • If you have a scheduled feedback session it is compulsory • Check MedLea and your emails regularly • If we cannot get hold of you at the end of the year (i.e. if you have left the country for any reason or changed your contact details) this could effect your graduation so please keep your contact details up to date!
