EUROPE FACES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, GRUNDTVIG PROGRAMME, BRNO 2012 • The Statutory City of Brno has been concerned with the issue of domestic violence since 2004 • The attitude of the City of Brno to domestic violence was promulgated in a declaration of the Brno City Council in March 2005 • Declaration of the Brno City Council • Identified domestic violence as a society-wide problem that must be tackled at all levels including the level of municipal policy • Denounced all forms of domestic violence • Guaranteed political support of activities related to domestic violence prevention and help to the victims • The declaration of the Brno City Council was the main impulse for the establishment of the IDT (May 2005) • The interdisciplinary cooperation and team within the City of Brno was initiated by the Department of Health of the Brno City Municipality (MMB) • Gradual establishment of coordinated cooperation with the representatives of government, allowance organisations and NGOs

EUROPE FACES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, GRUNDTVIG PROGRAMME, BRNO 2012 • Interdisciplinary team of the City of Brno – IDT • A group of professionals in the field of domestic violence • It is made up of a total of 24 members representing specific organisations • Regular meetings in 3-month intervals • IDT group – response team • A closer working group allocated from IDT to respond to specific cases of domestic violence • It is made up of a total of 8 members representing the participating organisations • Regular monthly meetings

Europe faces domestic violence, GRUNDTVIG programme, Brno 2012 • Own logo and marking - IDT • Uniform definition of domestic violence • Domestic violence is physical, mental, emotional, and sexual violence between related persons, where the batterer and the person in danger are emotionally, socially and economically related. Violence is committed in private, the intensity of incidents gradually rises and features signs of long-term and repeated behaviour while the batterer and the endangered person have distinctly separately roles. • Uniform terminology of basic terms • The use of mutual experience and findings, networking model and extended ID cooperation

EUROPE FACES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, GRUNDTVIG PROGRAMME, BRNO 2012 • Transfer of the Ostrava model of interdisciplinary cooperation and its application to local conditions • Primary blanket professional trainings based on the professions • A total of 739 professionals have been trained • Development of profession-related working manuals • Establishment of DONA Centre Brno – counselling centre for people in danger of domestic violence which was converted as of 1st January 2007 into the Intervention Centre of the South Moravian Centre • Continuous awareness raising and organisation of public campaigns to support domestic violence prevention
