Homework – Due Wed. Sept. 2 • Inference Bag – Choose 3 small items that will fit in a lunch bag. First, introduce yourself. Explain why you chose each item. What does each item say about you? Class members will be given a chance to “infer” something about each other’s likes, dislikes, hobbies, music choices, interests etc. Be creative.
Inference Bag Grading Rubric • 25 points for this assignment • Bag and constructed statement – on board with class help. Use “heavy” words! Write your constructed statement (with revisions) on your class folder.
Inference Bag Examples • This team-building exercise allows us to think outside our “box”! • Nate: I am an athletic basketball and baseball player, quick on my feet, enjoying family time. • Nick – I am an Ozzy-lover, drum player, who has time to watch the Sox. • Jimmy – I am a soccer-obsessed, on-top-of-my-game kid, who flies in water like a marlin.
Inference Bag Examples • This team-building exercise allows us to think outside our “box”! • James - I am a musically inclined golf enthusiast, who roles smoothly on his board. • Rachel - I am an extreme thrill-seeker, sports fanatic; a technologically savvy rebel. • Zach – I am a musical traveler who likes money and spending time with my cats.
Essential Questions! • What characteristics define me? • How can “heavy” words be used to describe me? • What is inference and how does it relate to me? Peel back the layers and make a connection!
Comp Books and Inference Team Building! • Copy your statement in your comp books and on the flip chart. • Does your board partner have an accurate inference about you? • Choose which statement you prefer. • Copy your final statement (with edits) in your comp book and on the class flipchart.
