  2. Who Claude McKay was a Jamaican-American writer He lived from Sep. 18, 1889 – May 22, 1948. His birth name was Festus Clauduis McKay Born in Nairne Castle near James Hill, Clarendon, Jamaica.

What A Memory of June When June comes dancing o'er the death of May, With scarlet roses tinting her green breast, And mating thrushes ushering in her day, And Earth on tiptoe for her golden guest, … He wrote one of the best known poems He wrote 3 novels and also wrote short stories. He earned 3 important awards

  4. When Jamaican Institute of Arts and Sciences, gold medal, 1912, for two volumes of poetry, Songs of Jamaica and Constab Ballads; Harmon Foundation Award for distinguished literary achievement, NAACP, 1929, for Harlem Shadows and Home to Harlem; James Weldon Johnson Literary Guild Award, 1937.

  5. Where Went to go live with his brother when he was a child. In 1934, McKay moved back to the United States and lived in Harlem, New York. Losing faith in Communism, he turned his attention to the teachings of various spiritual and political leaders in Harlem, eventually converting to Catholicism.
