  7. Stewart Title Building The owners, Kauffman-Runge housed commodities on the building's ground floor, and had offices above. Many highly-respected Galveston firms had business quarters here. In 1905 the property was bought by Maco Stewart (1871 - 1938), who redesigned the interior to create a gallery effect with an arched skylight on the top floor. Maco Stewart founded Stewart Title, which is the largest Texas Title Insurance Company. This Renaissance Revival building in the North Italian mode opened in 1882. Then known as the world's foremost cotton exporters and the initiators of coffee imports from Brazil.

  8. The academy opened in 1854,and was used as a hospital by both sides during the Civil War. The main Victorian Gothic building sheltered more than 1,000 refugees during the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. The campus included an academy building, a brick chapel, and monastery. Hurricane Carla damaged both the academy and convent in 1961, and the buildings were subsequently demolished. In 1968 the Ursuline girls' school consolidated with Kirwin Catholic High School and the Dominican girls' school; it was renamed O'Connell High School for Msgr. Dan O'Connell. The Ursuline Academy at Galveston was established in February 1847 by Ursuline Sisters.The school, Galveston's first parochial school, on a ten-acre campus. Attended by girls of all faiths,

The Tremont House Built in 1879, the Victorian-style Wyndham Tremont House is located in the Strand Historic District, within walking distance of the 1894 Grand Opera House.This location is also within walking distance of the Strand Street Theater. The hotel is on the trolley car route that runs to the beach and throughout downtown. Tremont House has soaring ceilings, 11-foot windows, and period furnishings. The four-story atrium lobby, with ironwork balconies and full-size palm trees, showcases an 1872 hand-carved rosewood bar. All rooms feature 14-foot ceilings, Victorian-style furnishings, hardwood floors, plush rugs, white muslin spreads, enameled brass beds, marble tubs and hand-painted Italian tiles..
