Improve Work Strands Reviews: Main barriers and facilitators to lifestyle change Qualitative studies: Exploring experiences of health checks and delivery of lifestyle change Q-sort: Attitudes of staff towards delivery of health check with focus on health equalities Development of an evaluation framework for Healthy Living Centres

Tailoring lifestyle referrals….. • Evidence synthesis – revealed 5 factors influencing uptake of lifestyle behaviour change: • Emotions • Knowledge • Support from family & friends • Transport & cost • Beliefs • Development of algorithm - shift from ‘one size fits all’ to tailored approach (based around the needs of patients) to help staff match patient need with service response at the point of referral to lifestyle support • Qualitative studies reveal interpersonal and organisational factors that impact on the delivery of lifestyle advice and uptake of behaviour change.

  7. Challenges for research and care....? • To think differently about how we conceptualise care • To build integrated care networks • To coordinate them for healthcare and research • To develop ways of evaluating their impact/effectiveness

What next…..? • A definitive trial based on the findings of the Improve and the addictions theme (ARiAS) pilot work • Lifestyle support services – improving promotion of long-term maintenance of lifestyle behaviour change • Lifestyle support in dental practice • Gendered ageism and cardiovascular prevention • Data linkage • Develop and study care networks in pilot centres CLAHRC
