  4. Culture • There is a combination of European cultures - Roman, Slavic, Hungarian and Germanic. • countless theatres • performance venues • concert halls • Monastaries • Famous Kunsthaus art gallery

  5. History • Is often called the "Green March", because half of the area is covered with forests and one quarter with meadows, grasslands, vineyards and orchards. • Rich in minerals, soft coal and iron, which has been mined at Erzberg since the time of the Romans • There is an underwater park called the green lake

  6. Economy • Famous for their cuisine and pumpkin seed oil • Semmering Railway • Plastic production • Wine

  7. Special Foods • Filled Buchteln dumplings- a bread dumpling filled with a jam mixture • Pumpkin soup • Styrian Schnitzel- pork loin sandwich with garnish

  8. Archduke Johann • He was Archduke and Prince of Austria, Prince of Hungary, Bohemia. He was a member of the German army and later became a commander in the Austrian army. He had very liberal views and many supporters. He was adored by many people and was considered very handsome. He was married to an opera dancer. They bought a boat called Santa Margareta and sailed to South America. After leaving, no one ever saw him or his wife. He disappeared in 1890 and was declared dead in 1911. They weren’t even able to locate the ship.
