Calendar • Long Count: uinal(1 uinal = 20 kin = 20 days) tun(1 tun = 18 uinal = 360 days = approx. 1 year) katun(1 katun = 20 tun = 7,200 days = approx. 20 years) baktun(1 baktun = 20 katun = 144,000 days = approx. 394 years) • Tzolkin: • Measured in days, (Kin) is a day • The Haab: • The Haab was the civil calendar of the Mayas. It consisted of 18 "months" of 20 days each, followed by 5 extra days, known as Uayeb. This gives a year length of 365 days.

How was the Calendar Created? • The calendar is created by special Hoi days. • Winter and summer solstices (any alignments of planets or Galaxies able to be seen from the Earth). • These special/precious events were referred to as Hoi days. One would come around every so often. But actually in the year 2012 three different Hoi days are supposed to occur; causing much change and danger.

4. Hoi Days • These days were designated by astronomical events that were able to be seen by Earth • They would see this as precious because they were probably very beautiful and like nothing they had ever seen before. • If they could predict these events for such a long time it was an amazing break through

5. How do we know they aren’t wrong? • These people were very accurate with their predictions • They predicted the winter and summer solstices along with other astronomical events for the past 5,000 years and with no error. • Every astronomical event they predicted for the past 5,000 years was exact

6.
