THE CALENDAR… Among the Mayans accomplishments, the ancient Mayas invented a calendar of remarkable accuracy and complexity named the Mayan Calendar.
Most people around the globe look at some form of a calendar every single day. Business executives check to see when their meetings are scheduled. The busy mom confirms soccer practices and piano lessons. College students ensure that their papers are turned in on time and they have plenty of time to study for exams. For the people of ancient Maya, calendars were just as important to daily life as they are to people today.
The Mayans placed great value in recording their people's history. While they weren't the first civilization to ever use a calendar, they did devise four separate calendars that lasted for discrete time periods. Depending on their needs, the Mayans used different calendars or some combination of two calendars to record each event. Their Long Count calendar expires in 2012, leading some to believe that it predicts an apocalyptic event
The Mayan Calendar seems to end on a certain date, Dec. 12, 2012. This could just be a simple ending to the calendars. But some think to think other wise… Could the Mayans REALLY predict such a dreadful thing so far ahead of their time? I guess we will find out…
dfydty The following words are from Marie D. Jones . The mythology behind the 2012 enigma focuses on the ancient Mayan Long Count Calendar which was a Mesoamerican calendrical system that mysteriously ends on December 21, 2012. Interestingly enough, that date also coincides with the winter solstice. This date further corresponds with a predicted "galactic alignment" which is believed to occur when our solar system passes directly through the Galactic Equator. NOTE: The winter solstice occurs exactly when the Earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun at its maximum of 23° 26'.
FAKE?... Could be… In the 1900’s people stood in on mountains in Utah. They thought it to be the end of the world… Did it happen? NO. 2000 – y2k? Did it happen? NO. In 1998 people thought time would repeat itself….
…NO Just because this Calendar ends has nothing to do with the end of time. It could just be something our imaginations tricked us into believing…
