Sections of the LibraryNonfiction • We have five basic sections of the library. • Three are nonfiction: reference, Nonfiction or Dewey Decimal, and biographies. • Let’s look at each one.
Reference • This is the section of the library you NEVER check out from. However, it is very useful when doing research and looking for true facts. Books like encyclopedias, dictionaries, and thesauruses are there.
Biographies • Biographies is the second nonfiction section in our library. • This section holds book about famous people who have passed away or are still alive. • They are put in ABC order by the famous person’s last name.
Nonfiction – Dewey Decimal • The 3rd nonfiction section is the Dewey Decimal Section. • It’s a group of true, fact books put in groups according to their subject. • For example, all the pet books are in one section!
Sections of the LibraryFiction • We have two fiction sections in our library. • Everybody books are books with lots of pictures and the reading levels can be anywhere from kindergarten level to eight grade! • Junior fiction is a group of chapter books for older kids who can visualize stories in their head better and not depend on pictures as much.
Everybody • Everybody books are sometimes called Picture Books because of all the pictures inside. • Many of these books have only 32 pages. • They sit on the shelf in ABC order by the author’s last name.
Junior Fiction • Junior Fiction books are sometimes called chapter books. • They have fewer pictures and more pages.
Can You Locate it? • Can you tell me which section of the library the following books would be found in? • Look at each picture. Think: Fiction or nonfiction? Where would I find this book? Everybody, Junior Fiction, Reference, Biographies, or Nonfiction. • If you know the answer, raise your hand.

How Did You Do? • Did you know that MOST libraries have the same sections? • If you go to Bullitt Lick Middle School, they have the same sections! • If you go to Ridgeway Public Library, they have the same sections, too!
