Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) • Def- The agency formed in 1968 to coordinate all aid from government sources, religious organizations, and charities. • CIDA’s mission was to provide emergency aid and disaster relief to stricken areas of the world such as food and emergency shelters. • HS- Canada’s aid to Africa, Asia and Latin America expanded under CIDA (Chart on P. 420 lists contributions from 1970-1997)
Sustainable Development • Def- developing a country’s resources while ensuring the resources are available for future generations • HS- by 1985, Canada was spending about 50 percent of its GNP on Foreign Aid • Why would Canada want to do this? (Is it just because we are so friendly ????)
