  1. Lymphedema (Primary/Secondary) affecting the upper arm & it’s an effective treatment Certain activities might trigger the onset of lymphedema or may further worsen or literally exacerbate the symptoms of existing lymphedema. Individuals affected by primary or secondary lymphedema and those at risk for developing it (everyone who has undergone lymph node excision and/or radiation treatments) should observe the following precautions. Keep your skin hydrated & genuinely clean, Avoid cosmetics that irritate the skin, Avoid clothing that is too tight for your upper arm, Avoid hot showers, Do not wear tight jewellery, Avoid elastic bands around your wrist & definitely Avoid movements that overstrain. To worsen the condition obesity may have a negative impact on your swelling. To maintain your ideal body weight through a balanced diet and workouts. So if you have had surgery for breast cancer, you are probably at risk for lymphedema – a chronic swelling of the arm or another body part due to the build-up of fluid. This fluid, known as lymph, transports white blood cells, and cellular debris throughout the body.

  2. Removal of lymph nodes under the arm during breast cancer surgery or radiation therapy can cause a blockage in lymphatic nodes which causes lymphedema. It can develop shortly after your surgery or probably many years later. Further, if you have lymphedema, you are also at high risk for an infection. Therefore, it is of prerogative concern to avoid any cuts, scrapes, burns as well as exposure to extreme heat or cold conditions. Treatment for lymphedema includes usage of compression bandages and especially compression arm sleeves. Your doctor will suggest you wear your compression sleeve all day long. Consult your therapist at least every six months (or sooner) to check the condition of the disease. Further, discuss proper exercise routines and activities with your therapist and ask with your concerned oncologist what kind of external breast prosthesis is appropriate in your case. Pushpanjali Medi Inia Pvt Ltd discovers how to minimize the risk of lymphedema in details and usage of arm sleeves, sole importer & distributor of medi products covering lymph ology with a dealer strength of 400+ and network covering 140+ cities.
