System Assessment & Validation for Emergency Responders Statement of Problem: Emergency response equipment is being purchased at an increasing rate by state and local emergency responders. Although the equipment is tested by the manufacturer, the overall safety, quality, reliability and maintainability of the equipment in field environments may be significantly different. • Objectives: • Initiate a Testing & Evaluation (T&E) program to test and evaluate COTS emergency response equipment, as selected by ODP • Utilize TEEX & TEES existing facilities, expertise, subject matter experts (SME’s), etc. • Provide “Comparative Evaluation Reports” to emergency responders, manufacturers, NIST, etc. Day-to-Day Management Team / Assets: • Cost & Schedule: • $1.5M, 9 mo. • Prepare for follow-on funding and tasks • Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES): • Labs, T&E expertise, etc. • Texas Center for Applied Technology (TCAT) • Task 1: • Personnel Locator Equipment • Decontamination Equipment and Methods • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) • Texas Transportation Institute (TTI): • Operational testing expertise • Test Engineers, Protocols, Metrics, QA/QC • Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX): • National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center (NERRTC) • Disaster City (full-scale urban disaster simulation & training facility) • Texas Task Force I (Urban Search & Rescue response team) • Brayton Fire Training Field (largest live-fueled training facility) • Riverside Campus (unexploded ordnance courses, identification & handling of explosives, etc.) • Task 2: • Database Management System for Providing Feedback to Emergency Responder Community: “Comparative Evaluation Reports” Interim “Consumer Reports” Testing & Evaluation of Emergency Response Equipment
Academic Center for Aging Aircraft (ACAA) OBJECTIVE: Establish, test, evaluate, demonstrate, and implement improved and cost-effective technologies in Corrosion Prevention and Control, Nondestructive Evaluation, Prognostics, and Diagnostics Tools, Structural and Mechanical Systems, Reliability, Integrity and Repair, Wiring and Avionics, Systems Engineering Decision Tools, Information Technology and Interactive Databases, and Maintenance Process Modeling and Cost Analysis.
