    2. Introduction The development of effective training materials is dependent on the development of learning objectives. A learning objective is defined as “a statement that specifies measurable behavior that a trainee should exhibit after instruction”

    3. Introduction It is important that objectives are developed early since they form the foundation of all other training material.

    4. Introduction Some of the benefits of using learning Objectives are: Learning objectives are clarified and explicit. Content, methods, media and resources are derived and related to objectives. Focus is provided for the instructor and trainee. Criteria for evaluation are defined.

    5. Terminal Objective Upon completion of of this session, students will be able to develop effective course material following the design and development phases of the Instructional System Design (ISD) and the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) methods.

    6. Enabling Objectives Given a subject or task, develop a terminal objective. Given a terminal objective, develop supporting or enabling objectives. Given enabling objectives, develop measurement methods; test questions or performance measures.

    7. Enabling Objectives Given objectives, develop a lesson plan or an instructor’s guide. Given objectives and a lesson plan develop a student guide or handouts.

    8. This should be a statement of a task or subject that requires training. Operating Machinery New miner training Accident Investigation etc...........

    9. Terminal Objectives This is the ability or knowledge that you want your students to walk away with after the training has been completed.

    10. Enabling Objectives These are observable and measurable objectives which support the terminal objective and are based on job performance requirements.

    11. Developing Objectives Effective objectives consist of : Setting and conditions Action Verb Direct object Standards for evaluating performance

    12. Developing Objectives Effective objectives consist of : Setting and conditions Action Verb Direct object Standards for evaluating performance

    13. Developing Objectives Effective objectives consist of : Setting and conditions Action Verb Direct object Standards for evaluating performance

    14. Developing Objectives Effective objectives consist of : Setting and conditions Action Verb Direct object Standards for evaluating performance

    15. Why all the trouble just for “compliance” training? It adds value and the ability to directly measure the effectiveness of the training. Objectives aid in the development of a lesson plan and learning activities.

    16. Annual Refresher Training 30 CFR 48.8(b) & 48.28(b) ...The annual refresher training program for all miners shall include the following courses of instruction: ... Terminal Objective ?

    17. Annual Refresher Training Terminal Objective: Upon completion of annual refresher training, miners will have received eight hours of instruction on the courses as required by the approved training plan and 30 CFR Part 48.8 (b) and/or 48.28 (b).

    18. Annual Refresher Training Part 48.8 (11) /48.28(8) Health. The course shall include instruction on the purpose of taking dust, noise, and other health measurements and any health control plan in effect at the mine shall be explained. The health provisions of the Act and warning labels shall also be explained.

    19. Enabling Objectives Describe the purpose of noise, dust, and other health measurements as required by Company policy and CFR 30. Identify the requirements of the dust control and noise conservation plans as required for this site. List the health provisions of the 1977 Act. Describe the warning labels and signs as required by company policy and CFR 30 .

    20. Measurement Methods Test questions should be formed from the enabling objectives. OBJECTIVE: Identify the requirements of the dust control and noise conservation plans as required for this site. QUESTION: Which of the following is not a requirement of the dust control plan? Water sprays Enclosures Hydraulic fluid Ventilation

    21. Lesson Plan/Instructor’s Guide Logical sequencing of objectives Details required to ensure the student is trained to the level that is expected must now be included.

    23. Lesson Plan Details Describe the purpose of noise, dust, and other health measurements as required by Company policy and CFR 30. Discuss the properties of sound transmission and the mechanics of hearing. Give examples of common noises and their noise levels in decibels. List permissible exposure limits as required by MSHA. Discuss engineering & administrative controls and PPE Demonstrate sampling equipment. .............

    24. Lesson Plan/Instructor’s Guide How the objectives and details will be presented is written in to the lesson plan. Lecture Demonstrations Games Exercises Hands on Activities Visual Aids

    25. Student Guide and Handouts Student guides and handouts are taken from the lesson plan/instructors guide to ensure consistent presentation of the learning objectives.

    26. Final Ingredients A Dash of Humor Plenty of Personal Experiences Stir with active participation.

    27. Summary Effective course material is based on the foundation of : Learning Objectives Measurement Methods Proper design and sequencing Well written Lesson plan/Instructors Guide Activities Handouts Visuals
