Style of Video Narrative • 5) He goes through the house doing dance moves on the way • 1) Opens with rain & establishing shots of scenery • 4) He smashes the glass with a pebble to break into her house • 2) The villain, girl #1 go off with another guy into a car & drives off • This is further provoking the situation & has no initiative to repair the disruption • Seems to start straight off with a disruption but the problem seems to be identified or known by the characters before it is seen by the audience • 3) Justin as the hero, with Timbaland sat in a car sees them, he then walks out through the rain
Style of Video • 9) Ends with her left watching the video playing over on her TV • 6) Timbaland, as Justin’s donor/helper sends in girl #2 which is then filmed them kissing Justin with a video camera he found & then she leaves • 8)She senses something as Justin touches the glass, but as she turns around he is gone • 7 ) Girl #1 arrives back home & Justin stays & follows her around her house without her being aware of him & he hides in a cupboard watching her in the shower
Style of Video Performance • The only performance shown in the video is the scene where Justin is going through her house • He uses cleverly camera & dance moves that are snapped to the audio • The dance scenes & stunts create good effect & works well • He lip-synchs the words to the song in the video
Mode of Address • Throughout the video he is very aware of the camera & audience • In the lyrics, “YOU”... is used a lot which is directly aimed & addressed at girl #1 • It is used right from the start & frequently through the song which emphasises the use of it • [1st Verse] “You were my sunYou were my earth”… Indirect • He looks & sings into the camera & addresses the audience directly even through dancing too • Not looking into camera as he is concentrating on girl #1 & singing towards her • This impacts the audience as they think he is singing personally to them Direct • He uses minimal indirect mode of address this is shown at the beginning & end when the girl #1 is in the video
Uses & Gratifications Theory Social Interaction • Perhaps implies ways of how to get revenge when cheated on • A topic of discussion as this relates to the USP & break up of J.T & B.S Entertainment • The song itself & narrative & performance within the video is enjoyable & easy watching/listening Informative • Could even teach how to get break in to houses • Dance moves can be used as inspiration by watchers
