Planning to Write • Keep an “idea” journal • Organize paper submissions in excel spreadsheet • Consider what each paper contributes to larger research agenda

Planning to Write • Be clear about the theoretical issue you’re addressing (Rickford) • Choose target journal Look at where articles you like are published Review their goals/policies Try to organize paper according to their guidelines to save time
Planning to Write • Outline paper (Rickford): Plan the sections & subsections Estimate number of pages for each section Include citations in the outline so you know what to include
