  2. Will the Real Men Please Stand Up!Selected Scriptures What does it mean to be a man? What qualities do real men possess? The percentage of real men has been dropping

  3. Cultural Confusion Expectations of the characteristics & behavior of men have changed Family breakdown has resulted in high rates of homes without dads - no one to model being a man. Boys act like animals because they are treated like animals without expectation of self-control

  4. Cultural Confusion Feminism has redefined the role and characteristics of women with a corresponding confusion for men The “Men’s Movement” may do some helpful things, but a lot of it is wacky

  5. Cultural Confusion Who are the heroes for young men? Strength, courage and leadership are not enough to define a real man. Real men do not have to be physical.

  6. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Humility Humility demands you know your weaknesses & be modest about your strengths. Men are naturally proud, arrogant and boastful Matthew 5:3 - entrance into the kingdom of Heaven begins by being poor in spirit

  7. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Humility 1 Peter 3:5,6 - God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble Moses had strength, leadership and courage - he was also very humble Pride gets men into trouble

  8. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Meekness It is not weakness, it is power under control by submission to authority. The meek man understands his own limitations and relies upon the one who is more powerful - God

  9. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Meekness Moses was in submission to God's authority and willingly obeyed God's commandments Meekness is the key to victory even in spiritual battles - James 4:7

  10. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Strength & Courage Not physical ability, but the mental & emotional state Paul was seen as "weak," "a spectacle," "poor & without honor," but he was a powerhouse of missions William Willberforce was “uncommanding,” but God used him to eliminate slavery in England

CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Strength & Courage The mind and emotion must be set and controlled by confident belief They were willing to suffer because they knew they were part of something much bigger than themselves 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 - You must walk by faith and your ambition must be to please the Lord

  12. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Leadership A leader has convictions and he inspires others to join with him and do something. The leadership in the home reveals what will happen in other places Real men lead by example and persuasion not raw power

  13. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Mentor/Teacher Mentoring is the process of passing on the characteristics of one person to another The primary people a man is to train are his children (Deut. 6:4-9; Eph. 6:3,4; Col. 4:21).

  14. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Integrity Integrity is moral soundness, wholeness. Colossians 3:9 - He does not lie Psalm 15:3 - He keeps his word. If you cannot be trusted you will have little positive impact on others Real men keep their promises

  15. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Provider He looks out for those entrusted to his care - 1 Timothy 5:8 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 - Those who will not work should not eat Ephesians 4:28 - We work so that we will have something to share with others.

  16. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”A Friend He is a friend to his wife, sacrificing of himself for her - Ephesians 5 Philippians 2:3,4 - He humbly considers others as more important than himself

  17. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Godly Psalm 15 expresses the characteristics of the godly man.

  18. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Like Jesus Jesus displays the perfect example of all the characteristics of being a real man God is conforming Christians into the image of Christ

  19. CHARACTERISTICS OF “REAL MEN”Like Jesus Without Christ you cannot be the man God wants you to be Humble yourself before God – He will take it from there
