  1. APAN South Asia Net Group Charter and Organisation 26th July 2003

  2. Objectives • Have members from academic networks in the region • Establish human networks among regional institutes • Establish Internet links within region • Encourage regional research and education co-operation • Regional initiative for high-speed intercontinental connectivity

  3. Organisation • A regional grouping within APAN • geography – AF – BD - MD • Members • Academic networks in region (Ex. ERNET, LEARN) • Associate Members • Academic institutes in region (Ex. BD) • Members and Associate members should (at some point) become APAN members

  4. Organisation (cont.) • Chairman • Will represent APAN-SANG in APAN • Management Committee • One committee member from each Member / Associate Member • Alternate from each member / Ass. Mem. • Working Groups • to be set up as needed

  5. Organisation (cont.) • Secretariat • LEARN offers to provide secretariat for 1st year • APAN could provide web-site, etc. • Mailing list - APANSANG • No legal organisation

  6. Funding • No funds at present • Each member should pay membership fees to APAN • APAN will reserve 50% for APAN-SANG • To be used mainly for meetings

  7. Meetings • Yearly APAN-SANG meeting • co-locate with SANOG • Next meeting proposed in Bangalore in Jan 04 • APAN-SANG members will meet annually at APAN meeting • Meeting at Honolulu? • next meeting – Taipei Aug 23-28 2004
