Why Is Hydrogen Energy Strategic 1.1 Billion people live without electricity in2017 Source: WorldBank
Cumulative investment in modern energy access,2017-2030 • The World Bank estimates that delivering electricity to the world’s energy poor could create 1.5 trillion additional productive hours, equivalent to 31 weeks of full-time employment or education for every energy-poor person onEarth NewPolicies Scenario $353 Billion Of total energy sectorinvestment 1.6% Global EnergyOpportunity • In the IEA, New Policies Scenario, the total cumulative investment for providing electricity access amounts to around $334 billion over the period to 2030, 1.5% of global investment in the energy sector.5 The total investment for electricity access is roughly a third each for on-grid access, mini-grids (generation and distribution) and foroff-grid. Energyfor AllCase $786 Billion • Almost 90% of all investment in generation is for renewables, particularly for solar PV. Of the total investment for providing electricity access, 70% is in developing Asia, while around 25% is for sub-SaharanAfrica. Of total energy sectorinvestment 3.4% The cumulative investment of $786 billion needs to provide energy for all would mean a 3.4% increase in total energy sectorinvestment Cooking Electricity
Standalone H2 hybrid energy system use water and renewable energy to provide remote communitieswith reliable, robust and economic electricity24/7/365 Hydrogen Hybrid RenewableEnergy HEC’s integrated solution incorporates automatic fail safe electronic control system for operation and energy management while providing an expected lifetime of 25 years or more at costs less than commercially availablealternatives Renewables such as solar and wind provide energy to the community and also to HEC’s patented hydrogen PEM electrolyzer (”EZ-1™”) which produces hydrogen which is stored for use when renewable energy from sunlight or wind areunavailable When renewable energy is unavailable HEC’s proprietary energy management system and software automatically switch on internal combustion engine (“ICE”) gensets modified to run on Hydrogen using HEC’s unique designs andspecifications
LongLifespan Economics Robust Hydrogen versus Battery Storage Batteries are fragile and susceptible to damage from heat, humidity, depth of discharge and other factors. In remote and harsh environments, batteries often fail before expected lifecycleexpectancies PEM electrolyzers and internal combustion generators have operating lifespans of over 15K hours with HEC’s EZ-1™ PEM expected to operate for 25 years of dailyuse Battery solutions typically store a single day’s end user’s energy requirement due to costs. HEC’s systems allow storage of several days energy load at a small fraction of the cost of a comparable battery storagesolution Hydrogen PEM system housed within standard shipping containers are able to withstand much greater ranges of environmental risk factors which would be catastrophic for batterysystems Batteries, under ideal temperature, maintenance and use case have very limited lifecycles based on charging cycles. In a 20 year scenario, batteries should be expected to be replaced three times or more. Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) analysis suggests that HEC’s EZ-1™ offer substantial cost saving in comparison to battery alternatives
Reliable Economics Clean Hydrogen versus DieselGensets HEC’s TINATM system relies on clean renewable energy sources and it’s ICE gensets exhaust watervapor. HEC’s TINA™ system is expected to operate for 25 years of daily use with infrequent and simplemaintenance. While HEC TINATM Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) is expected to be lessthan $0.45/kWh, onsite diesel generation in remote locations such as the 9,508 inhabitedislands in the ASEAN region can exceed $1.30kWh due to the extremely high costs of transportation of diesel fuel as well as the increased costs of remotemaintenance Diesel gensets are environmentally unfriendly with local environmental impacts as well as carbon and other dirty exhaustbyproducts Diesel gensets have high operational and maintenance costs which are complicated due to sub-optimal operating power generation, frequent stop/start cycles and environmental challenges. Onsite technical support and maintenance add to costs and impairreliability
Levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) for electricityaccess solutions in the New Policies Scenario to2030 HEC’s 25 year Levelized Cost of Energy of $0.45 kWh iscompetitive with alternative standalone hybrid systemscosts Over time, HEC expects H2 LCOE to decline as production volumes increase Levelized CostComparison
