notes on notes a how-to
Do’s • Read the slide/page and re-write in your own words • Write down: • definitions • Important facts • Examples • References that help you (abbrev./pic./word assoc.)
Don’ts • Write out the entire slide/page word-for-word • Write nothing • Make references that you won’t be able to decipher later • Waste your time goofing off
Why notes? • They are a learning tool and a studytool • Point: to be able to look back and review the main points, definitions, and examples of a concept before a quiz, test, or essay.
Practice • Noun: a person, place, thing, or idea • Ex: Sally went to the market. (where is the noun?) • Underline Sally, circle it, draw an arrow to her…and also to market • draw a picture of a person (stick) and/or a lightbulb • These are your references, and for some make this less boring…don’t take advantage of the fact that I'm letting you do this. I just want to help
For realsies • Start a new title and date for SHR –or- Schoolhouse Rock!!! • -or- POS –or- Parts of Speech • Watch the video, write down the definition and as many examples as you can • Draw something (optional) • Make a connection, write down a lyric, something
