  2. What is Plantar Fasciitis Plantar fasciitis is pain and stiffness on the bottom of the heel caused by the inflammation of the thick band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes, known as the plantar fascia.

  3. Causes The most common cause of plantar fasciitis is overuse, followed by acute injury to the plantar fascia. Other causes include: 01 04 Wearing footwear that does not provide proper support Bone spur on the heel 02 05 Regularly running, jogging, or walking for long distances High-impact exercise such as basketball, gymnastics, and dance 03 06 Standing on your feet for long periods Flat feet or high arches

  4. Symptoms The most common symptom of plantar fasciitis is sharp pain in the heel. Typically, the pain is most noticeable when getting out of bed in the morning or standing after sitting down for a long period of time. • Pain usually improves with rest. However, some patients experience pain throughout the day, even when not using the affected foot.
