Issaquah Hobart Road Corridor Study GMVUAC Presentation June 1, 2009 David Mark and Jim Ishimaru Road Services Division King County Department of Transportation
Study Purpose: • Analyze existing and future traffic conditions along the Issaquah-Hobart Road Corridor • Develop short & long term Transportation project recommendations, consistent with Comprehensive Plan policy direction • Use a new subarea traffic model to test different “what if” scenarios • Establish an Interagency Technical Advisory committee to help finalize recommendations
Current Conditions and Issues • Issaquah-Hobart Road functions as an Urban Connector with unique rural characteristics • Frequent accidents along entire length of Issaquah-Hobart Road • Safety/parking issues near hang-glider area • Slow-moving commute traffic • Intersection delay at SE May Valley Road & Cedar Grove Road intersections • Fifteen mile creek bridge needs replacement
Project Recommendations - Short term • Install No Parking signs near Hang Glider Park • Install traffic cameras at Cedar Grove Road and May Valley Road intersections to monitor traffic conditions • Install digital message sign near SE Mirrormont Blvd • Interconnect signals at Cedar Grove Road and May Valley Road to allow intersections to be controlled at traffic center • Review for possible new warning signs at high accident locations
Initial Project Recommendations – Long term • Complete SR-18 widening from Issaquah-Hobart Road to I-90 • Replace Fifteen mile creek Bridge • Expand existing Hang glider parking lot • Construct roundabouts at intersections with May Valley Road & Cedar Grove Road • Improve channelization from May Valley Road to Issaquah City Limits • Install fiber optics, flood sensors and weather station in the corridor
Next steps • Work to include project recommendations in our Six Year Capital Improvement Program • Work with local jurisdictions and UACs to address other SE King County traffic needs
