Sexually Active Teens Face Risks • Each year, approximately one million teenage women become pregnant. • Condom use among adolescents decrease as they mature. • Each year, an estimated 3 million adolescents are infected with STD’s. • Adolescents lack access to contraceptives • Confidentiality, cost, embarrassment, transportation, and objection of a partner.
Condom Availability Programs are Common • 418 public schools in the United States make condoms available to students. • In 81% of schools, some type of parental consent is required before a student can acquire a condom. • In 90% of schools with condom availability programs, students may receive counseling.
