The Class • Language Arts 4 • The completion of a Senior Project will show proficiency in most of the benchmarks required of the course • A credit will be earned for the class • The class will guide the student to successful completion • Successful completion of the Senior Project will earn another credit

The Proposal • Planning will smooth the way to a successful project • Form is available on the school website • Aieahs.org – Academics – Senior Project • Key elements are: • Topic • Essential Question (to guide the research & product) • Product Plan & Budget • Ideas for Presentation
Paper • DOE Guidelines are 1500 to 2000 words • The complex ideas we are encouraging will require a longer paper. It’s not about how long, it’s about how well the ideas are explained. • 3 drafts required • Submitted through Turnitin.com • MLA format with citations • Plagiarism on the final draft will have dire consequences
Product • A tangible activity that is a logical culmination of the research • Must be documented • A Mentor will help guide the process
Portfolio • Accumulation of evidence • Documentation of the process • Comprehensive and cohesive • Publication
Presentation • Multiple opportunities to practice • Grade will be determined by “dress rehearsal” at an in-class presentation • Final presentation must be made to a panel of community judges – 2 to 4 adults
Timeline • Proposals: approval should come by the end of 1st quarter • Research: beings 1st quarter • The paper should be finalized by the end of 2nd quarter • Products should begin during 2nd quarter • Products must be finished by mid-3rd quarter • Portfolios will be finalized AND • Presentations at the end of 3rd quarter • 4th quarter will be spent with literature and drama
Role of the Parent • approve of the student's proposal • sign and submit parent consent/liability form • guide and assist the student throughout the process • cover all costs associated with the completion of the product • attend presentation and offer moral support
Grades • Will be based on proficiency of meeting National Common Core Standards • Student can pass class without completing Senior Project • Passing the class may be required for graduation (unless student has “extra” credits) • Completion of class with an “A” or “B” grade to maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA • AND Successful completion of Senior Project • Will Earn the Board of Education Recognition Diploma with Honors
