  3. Current NMC review – all graduate entry by 2013 • National nursing shortage • DH – predicted shortfall of 14,000 nurses by 2010/11 • Ageing registered nursing workforce • Succession planning

  4. Why are we supporting this? • Alternative route into nursing • Partnership working with local F.E. college • “Earn as you Learn” & “Grow your Own” philosophy • Access route to RN qualification • Qualification in its own right • Staff development / career pathway

  5. How does it work? • 2 year programme • Professional Education funding • 1 day per week college release • 970 clinical “placement” hours • Mentor & student support • Pastoral support from College

  6. Fully approved by NMC as a progression route onto pre-registration programme • Learning Outcomes are NMC approved • “step onto” final 18 months of pre-registration programme • End result = BSc in Nursing Studies

  7. Study skills Health wellbeing & illness Team working / coaching Anatomy & Physiology Principles & theories of health care Work based learning (placements) Long Term Conditions Dementia Care Management / Leadership Overview of programme

  8. Entry requirements • Minimum of 12 months service • GCSE’s grades A – C • Literacy & Numeracy • Entrance test • Apply via UCAS

  9. Additional requirements • Must have full support of Line Manager • HCA contribution towards fees • Commitment & dedication • Understanding from clinical areas • Support from clinical areas
