  2. E-learning Practices at PPU Many projects have been completed by staff initiatives, these projects concentrated on: • developing e-courses • Virtual Labs • e-examination systems • Learning Management Systems (LMS) • Extensive use of technology An experience has been earned in these areas.

  3. e-coursesMultimedia supported • Introduction to computers • Database Design (Normalization) • English for K1 • Information technology for K5 • Operation management • Multimedia course • And many others … As a result of these experiences a paper has been published on using multimedia in education in Alnajah University IT conference,2004.

  4. Objectives • To support the course content • Attract students attention • Gain experience in e-learning development

  5. Problems • Lack of technical and pedagogical experience • Development time • No follow up • Lack of funding • Limited bandwidth.

  6. Actors • Students (Graduation projects) • Staff (supervisors) • Pedagogical experts (Some times).

  7. Tools • Authoring tools: Director, Flash, Priemer. • Sound forge, Sound Talk, 3D Max, Maya • Front page (HTML) • ASP.net • LabView • C++ • Java • Data acquisition cards • SQL Server7, Visual studio

  8. E-Exams • Standard examination faber-quiz (different types of questions), Web-based and client-server. Used for English entrance exam • Adaptive examination project • Instructor-course evaluation project.

  9. Virtual Labs • Electric circuits (PC-based) • Data acquisition (web-based) • 8085 simulator (PC-based)

Effective Web-Based Syllabus Recently, it has been developed and implemented at Administrative Sciences and Informatics College • This system is the main step for developing LMS. • A course syllabus can be a valuable organization, communication, and learning tool • It is reflecting the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Academic Subject Review and the MOHE program review documents. • Provide the students with the needed information they need in the right time • We can use it as a main source for academic subject review and self evaluation.

  12. Benefits • Many courses have been added to the current programs • New programs have been added (Graphics and Multimedia, Web development)

  14. Creating E-learning Strategic Plan is the answer. Without strategic plan and financial support nothing valuable can be done • Strategic plan committee has been formed • Budget has been allocated

  15. Strategic Plan An e-learning strategy is a systematic and comprehensive plan of action designed to ensure the success of a broad-based e-learning initiative that adds value to organization in ways that are supportable and sustainable.

  16. Vision The university aims to provide quality vocational and technical engineering education, Applied Sciences, Management and Information Technology; and to break down barriers between education and work by providing flexible and convenient learning opportunities that enhance work

Strategic Objectives • Promoting new tools to support learning, teaching and assessment. • Embedding e-learning in the teaching and learning system in our university as an integral part. • Supporting academic staff in the e-learning embedding and developments. • Realizing appropriate and sustainable infrastructure with the capacity and technical support, which makes e-learning widely available, as appropriate, to staff and students.

Strategic Objectives • Ensuring that students gain the relevant skills, which are needed to engage with e-environments. • Establishing an e-learning Center as Separate Unit, that leads the processes of embedding, development and supervision e-learning as well support to the Academic staff. • Ensuring e-learning is accessible to all student. • Facilitating flexible learning into a more student-focused system.

Strategic Objectives • Facilitating the collaborative learning which supports the exchange and sharing of information and opinions among a peer group. • Supporting the development of the e-learning research. • Encouraging national and international co-operation in e-learning issues. • Promoting, presenting, development and use of leaning resources and networked learning, especially digital resources e.g. e-books, online magazine and conferences.

Action Plan • Installation of MOODLE learning management system ( Accomplished). • Forming e-learning groups from all departments. • Training these groups on how to use MOODLE • Enter the basic Tokens of 2-courses for each department (total of 35 e-courses) using MOODLE • Design of all courses as e-courses ( long term)
