PAPUA NEW GUINEA NATIONAL WASTE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FRAMEWORK
Introduction • The PNG DEC has undertaken to formulate this National Waste Management Strategy in collaboration with all relevant lead government agencies, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The PNG Urban and Local Level Association .Inc., the NCDC and Lae City Municipal authorities, water ands sewerage service providers, contractors and retailers involved with waste collection, disposal and waste recycling.
KEY ELEMENTS • Regulate, and provide guidance to adequately manage, dispose, and contain wastes. • Protect the existing natural environment (air, land, surface waters, the sea and marine ecosystems, and groundwater) and human population from harmful effects arising from uncontrolled waste management. • Provide guidance and assist in the improvement of existing waste management and disposal systems.
Provide guidance and assist in the planning, design, construction and management of appropriate waste management systems. • Promote approaches to waste reuse, wastes recycling, waste recovery, and waste disposal.
