Effects of Tanning • UVA vs. UVB rays • Limited amount of UVA leads to a tan • Overexposure to UVA rays cause skin damage • UVB rays are very dangerous • Skin is exposed to between 93% and 99% UVA radiation when in a tanning bed
The Experts vs. Tanning Industry • Many tanning bed industries say that UVA radiation is not harmful to skin • Experts disagree • UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin leading to skin damage
Myths of Tanning • Tanning in moderation is ok • Tanning beds safer than going outside • Skin cancer can be cured very easily • Everyone needs a lot of sunlight in order to stay healthy
