COMENIUS PROGRAMME Grant applications & evaluation processDissemintation of activities Comenius Contact Seminar Oulu, Finland October 7th-10th, 2009
General framework • Application deadline 19th Feb. 2010 (?) • On-line application / Similar to PVs & CSs • .pdf: save the working form to your computer • Once finalized, coordinator submits to the system • Follow carefully the instructions: send copies of the application form to the partners • Application = filled in together, same application for all • Evaluation of the partnership is done by the NA of the coordinating school
General framework • Each school leaves the application /copy of application to its own NA • Send the application by post / snail mail before the deadline • Incomplete applications or applications turned in after the deadline are not evaluated! • Date and original signatures (and stamps, if applicable) are crucial
Writing the application • Work as a team across the partnership • Good idea to identify the lead writer for the whole application • Work as a team in each school, but make sure there is at least one person as “first-contact”. • An application can’t be rushed
Writing the application • Set “internal”deadline for the application (earlier than 19th February) • Allow time for printing, signing and postage • Take note of possible national priorities • Complete every section, answer to every questions
Keep in mind… • Application is your ticket to funding • Make sure your application is • Explicit and clear • Completed in full • No one is able to read your thoughts • Ideas need to be spelled out
Keep in mind… • No need to full fill all the programme priorities • better to focus clearly on something • Topic & theme is of interest of everyone • The age of pupils (if involved): adequate exercise for their age • End product, at least one jointly done
Keep in mind… • YOU be working with the project: balance of topics & themes = make sure you can hold the pieces together • Think as detailed as possible • The work programme covers both years (is tentative, can be changed later) • Answer all the questions
Good application • Clear objectives and realistic expected outcomes • A clear and coherent workplan • Pupil oriented partnerships: clearly write the role of pupils • Plans for ongoing evaluation • Dissemination of the project
Advice • Written guidance • Ask advice from your local expert / colleague • Ask advice from experienced Comenius school • NA (?)
Evaluation • Eligibility check • Not late, the signature, no missing parts (consult the section I. checklist on the application) • In every NA • Quality evaluation • In coordinating school’s NA
Evaluation • Done in the NA of the coordinating country • In Bilateral partnerships in both countries • Using 2 external experts (experienced!) • Using standard evaluation forms (available for everyone, NAs website)
Main problems in the applications • No answer in some questions / not answered to the question • The answer is too general • The planning is unrealistic or/and over ambitious
The work programme: not only project meetings, but local activities • The role of partners is unclear or unbalanced • Involvement of pupils / teachers • Evaluation / dissemination
