  1. Essay question • “Alfred Hitchcock has been described as the ‘Master of Suspense’. Analyse the parlour scene and use the guidelines to help you decide how suspense is created”.

Recipe for writing a good essay paragraph • Explain what your paragraph is about in the first sentence • Consider lay-out: new line for new paragraph • Include well chosen examples BUT do not retell the story • Consider HOW the case is presented by the makers and WHY • Include a linking sentence to lead onto the next point/paragraph at the end

  3. Continue the essay… • 2nd paragraph: Production details for Psycho • 3rd paragraph: why was the film shocking at the time? • 4th paragraph: what happens up until the Parlour scene?
