  7. Case Studies • The following are three case studies portraying actual situations, which are encountered in medical education. • Please use the learning theories and educational principles described earlier, to solve the problems in those three cases.

  8. Case 1 – Teaching basic science You have been asked to give a lecture on the autonomic nervous system to the first year dental student class of 100 students. This has traditionally been a difficult subject for the class. How will you plan your lesson so that the students can understand this topic in a 50-minute lecture?

  9. Case 2 –Cultural competence education • You are a member of the Curriculum Committee in the Department of Pediatrics, who has been given the responsibility of integrating cultural competence into the third year pediatrics clerkship. You have been given four two-hour blocks over the 6-weeks. How would you make the material engaging and useful to the students?

  10. Case 3: Resident training • You are the preceptor of a first-year resident, who is rotating in your practice for 3 months. Your practice is busy, so that the time you can spend with him is limited. How will you plan so that your resident has a valuable learning experience?
