TF-PR, TF-MSP • TF-MSP: Task Force on Management of Service Portfolios • Follow-up of TF-LCPM (“Task Force on Life Cycle and Portfolio Management”) – it started in February 2008, for two years • Main task: “to promote collaboration between research and education networking organisations in Europe in the area of management of service portfolios” (TF-MSP ToR) • This includes “to look at the common organisational aspects of finding, developing and introducing new services, supporting them during their production phase and eventual withdrawal” (TF-MSP ToR)
9. TF-MSP – Task Force on Management of Service Portfolios • Recent TF-MSP Meeting (Zurich – 29 & 30.09.2008) • TF-MSP session: It dealt with subjects like • Customer segmentation and serving new user groups • Identifying new services and new opportunities for collaboration not covered by GN2 or other TERENA TF (e.g., video delivery and spam filtering) • Exchange of best practices in the introduction of services and possible collaboration (e.g., introduction of eduroam) • Cost models and cost allocation & relation to tariff models • Over-provisioning of networks • Joint TF-MSP / TF-PR session: Looking for synergies, e.g., • Joint deliverables (List of projects?) • Assessment of user needs & service introduction • Impact of free-services • Cooperation with NRENs outside TERENA • Making the case for NRENs
9. TF-MSP – Task Force on Management of Service Portfolios • Next TF-MSP Meeting: Amsterdam - 03 & 04.02.2009 • Plan to increase activity during meetings: monthly surveys • NREN views in relation to serving new customer groups • Identification of new projects and collaboration possibilities • NREN Acceptable Use Policies • Important point for the future: coordination with GN3 Activity on Partner Service Promotion • GN2 spurred good coordination among technical teams, but not among NREN service portfolio managers • This could be improved through TF-PR, but certainly also through TF-MSP • Need to identify right people at NRENs involved and to set u adequate environment for increased cooperation
9. TF-PR, TF-MSP • TF-PR: Task Force on Public Relations • Meeting in Zurich (29 & 30.09.2008 – including joint session with TF-MSP), - back to back with GN2 PR Meeting (01.10.2008) • Review of deliverables, new market for publications, round-table, etc. • Main topic: Partner Service Promotion (PSP) & cooperation in this field through TF-PR • TF-PR TERENA Officer (Laura Dunford) is the PSP Leader • Main idea: promote take-up of GN3 services through cooperation with NRENs • Scope for cooperation in this task and others with TF-MSP
