PEOPLE IN SOCIETIES Creation of Israel: Israel created as a Jewish homeland after World War II Partition of India/Pakistan: the two countries were formed after gaining Independence from Great Britain. They have been at odds over the territory of Kashmir which is Muslim. Both sides want possession of Kashmir. Reunification of Germany: after WWII Germany was divided into a capitalist West and a Communist East. The Berlin Wall was built around the city to prevent people from escaping Eastern Germany. Apartheid: The British controlled country was divided by race. Non-whites wanted representation in the government. This was achieved in 1994 when Nelson Mandela was elected president.
