You will have 25 seconds to study the image and to prepare your response. Once the given time is over,
you will hear a short beep/tone indicating that microphone is on and you can now start speaking. You must end your answer before the progress bar reaches the end. Once you have stated your answer, the word “recording” in the screen changes to “completed.” There are 6–7 items in this speaking task and, you can only record your response once. 4 Practical Tips on How to Ace the PTE Speaking Test: Describe Image Do you want to know more about this speaking section? Check out these four practical tips that you can apply during your PTE online review package: 1. Pay attention to the main information in the image When you look at the image, ask yourself “What is the main idea of the image?” and “What are the details relating to the main idea?” You can use your erasable noteboard booklet (provided during the test) to take down notes of the key ideas and phrases that are related to the main information and explanatory details of the image. 2. Create your description of the image Organizing your answer will help you get a better band score. To create a well-organized answer, you must cover the main information as well as the additional details, and also talk about implications or conclusions related to the image. Just make sure that your answer is clear and concise. 3. Talk only after hearing the beep sound Since you can only record your answer once, do not start speaking before the microphone is “on” or else, your answer will not be recorded. Pay attention to the timer and wait until you hear the short beep. 4. Speak calmly but clearly Avoid saying “hmmm” or “ahmm” in your response. Although a good content is essential, you must also have a clear pronunciation and maintain your oral fluency until the end of your response.
