Guidelines for PQP Attempt to use poetic language/terms when you praise or polish a poem. Think of the images created in your mind (imagery/descriptive language), figurative language or comparisons (metaphor/simile), structural components (stanzas, rhyme scheme, organization of poem), and connections to self, other texts or real-world.
Guidelines for Questioning • Ask about word meanings • Question the meanings of metaphors and similes • Ask a question about the poet • Question the author’s purpose or tone • Question the use of words, phrases, descriptions • Question the connection of the title to the poem
Use poetic terms… Figurative language… Descriptive language… Sensory language… Personal connections or stories…. TO DESCRIBE! Say, “I don’t know,” “nothing,” or “everything” to describe your feelings about a poem Use the same response for every poem Disengage!
