  2. Today we will be learning to: • understand doubling and halving are inverse operations • begin to halve multiples of 10 up to 100 • recognise patterns in halving multiples of 10.

  3. Mental Activity Think of a number game. I will think of a number. You must work out the answer.

  4. If I add 9, I have 16.

  5. If I take away 7, I have 5.

  6. The total of my number and 4 is 12.

  7. If I subtract 8, I have 10.

  8. The sum of this number and 7 makes 15.

  9. 17 minus my number makes 8.

  10. Main Activity Today we are going to halve amounts.

  11. Halving is sharing between two groups without anything left over. Excuse me Owl, but what is halving?
