Manageability Features Overview • HP Command View for Tape Libraries • Integrated Manageability tools • CVTL for managing entire portfolio of StoreEver Tape Libraries from a single pane of glass. • TapeAssurefor monitoring, reporting and analytics of tape libraries and is tightly integrated with CVTL. • Features: • CVTL/TapeAssure available via web • CVTL & TapeAssure are integrated for single window view of entire library system. • Simple interface for adding multiple libraries • TapeAssure will provide alerts for the entire library system • TapeAssure is supported across the HP StoreEver portfolio managing HP standalone drives, autoloaders, and tape libraries. • Quantum iLayer/Vision • iLayer used on Quantum’s tape libraries. Only manages one library at a time. Cannot display all Quantum libraries from a single view. • Vision is used for monitoring, reporting & analytics of Quantum’s Scalar Tape Libraries. • Features: • Quantum Vision is available via web and mobile devices • iLayer and Vision function independently. • Can add one library at a time • Alerts set up based on customer defined rules (not entire library system)
Quantum: Vision Analytics Software • Benefits • Runs on Linux or Windows • Supports Scalar tape libraries and DXi disk-based backup devices • Vision has a defined alert mechanism • Rules are defined per library • Generates & delivers scheduled reports • Mobile Access / LDAP authentication supported • Deficiencies: • Basic functionality is licensed • Results derived from standard drive notifications such as Tape Alerts rather than in depth analysis of low level drive performance metrics • Customized graphs on only a few parameters • System Login to users based on group access privilege Quantum Vision software
HP StoreEver TapeAssure AdvancedBeats the competition • In Depth Analysis • The HP in depth analysis is built from knowledge generated during the design, development, and testing of HP tape drives. HP uses internal parameters that are only accessible to the HP drive development team for better analytics. • This is far superior to any analysis that can be done using only externally visible parameters . • Event based data gathering • TapeAssure Advanced is better at providing flexibility for gathering system events • Quantum’s Vision predefined frequency is inversely proportional to the number of devices being monitored & users • TapeAssure Advanced provides an exhaustive list of information on the tape drive’s health, performance and utilization • Quantum Vision provides very limited information: drive location, serial number & status only. • Health & Life Graphs • TapeAssure Advanced provides built in monitoring of tape library, drive and media wear for estimating remaining life (think - gas gauge) • TapeAssure Advanced provides health graphs from consolidated data on tape library/tape drive/media parameters • Quantum Vision doesn’t provide this level of data • Performance Advisor Graphs • TapeAssure provides compound analysis. • TAA is recording data from every operation in a local database then comparing the historical data to the most recent operation to differentiate between transient conditions. By detecting issues that are building over time, TAA can provide the administrator what is needed to address issues not available in any other single form of measurement. • TapeAssure Advanced provides a consolidated view of performance and utilization and plots data indicating both high and low performance and utilization information. • Quantum Vision doesn’t provide this level of data
HP StoreEver TapeAssure beats the competition • HP Command View for Tape Libraries & TapeAssure • Manage multiple HP StoreEver Tape Libraries from a single pane of glass saving time • TapeAssure provides more in depth analytics vs Quantum iLayer or Vision • The HP in depth analysis is built from knowledge generated during the design, development, and testing of HP tape drives. HP uses internal parameters that can only be accessed by the HP drive development team, allowing for superior analytics. • Graphing health, utilization details, and system performance provides a quick and easy visual overview that is easy to understand. • Easy to read dashboard that gives a single, integrated interface providing information for the entire system • Algorithms designed to proactively inform of early warnings on any resource degradation – improving backup and restore quality & reliability.
HP StoreEver Data Verification for ESL G3 vs. Quantum Extended Data Lifecycle Management (EDLM)
HP StoreEver Data Verification Software Verifying data integrity on tape media throughout its lifecycle
HP StoreEver Data Verification SoftwareKey features and Overview Know when media was last scanned • Key features: • Fully integrated into Command View TL (CVTL) for ease of use. • Flexible - License 100 cartridges at a time. Allows user to scan licensed cartridges at central data center or in a library located at a remote site. • Validates data quality to ensure a successful read • Receive proactive notification of questionable media in the archive. • Monitors cartridge health over the life of the data. Know that the data is high quality and only migrate if issues are detected Know what media is licensed by barcode for verification • Overview: • Supported on HP ESL G3 Tape Libraries • One partition must be created specifically for Data Verification & can be created with CVTL or with the ESL G3 Partitioning License. • At least one dedicated ESL G3 LTO-6 or LTO-5 tape drive must be assigned to the Data Verification partition for scanning • Once media has been placed into the Data Verification partition, scanning will begin without interruption to host application Know results of the media scan
HP StoreEverData Verification Software Protecting data everywhere Remote Site Data Verification scans tapes in library located at remote site Central Data Center “Data Verification Partition” Managed by library; not presented to host. License 100 cartridge increments Online Partition Thousands of tapes in library partition Managed by an application Archive Partition CVTL Management Station CVTL can configure & control Data Verification on multiple libraries at any location. Off site Vault Tapes shipped back to central data center for periodic scanning/verification
Quantum: Extended Data Lifecycle Management (EDLM)Benefits & Deficiencies • Benefits: • Complementary to Advanced Reporting. • Supports scanning of inactive cartridges • Checks completed in a library managed partition • No impacts to operations - Managed completely in background • Policies automate process • Supports LTO-2 thru LTO-5 media • Can automatically clone bad media, but only if using StorNext Software. • Deficiencies: • Requires a unique, higher cost drive and that is duplicated for every drive desired for EDLM. Customer is purchasing a bundle including the specific drive, the partition license and an I/O blade • Validates that the data can be read but does not perform deep inspection to determine the actual quality of the data
HP StoreEver Manageability beats the competition • HP StoreEver Command View for Tape Libraries, TapeAssure & Data Verification • Manage multiple HP StoreEver Tape Libraries from a single pane of glass saving time • TapeAssure provides more in depth analytics vs Quantum iLayer or Vision • The HP in depth analysis is built from knowledge generated during the design, development, and testing of HP tape drives. HP uses internal parameters that can only be accessed by the HP drive development team, allowing for superior analytics. . • Verify both media quality and data integrity on tape cartridges throughout the lifecycle using HP Data Verification
