Student Publication Iowa State Daily Kyle Starcevich
Why I chose the Daily… • It was the only publication I had heard of before. A lot of people wanted to find one that they had not heard of to do their projects on but I wanted to do one that I had prior knowledge about to make it easier and fun to find out more that I did not already know. The Iowa State Daily I feel has the easiest access to get. It is everywhere on campus and can get it just about anywhere you turn!
Projects • Analysis Paper • Profile Paper • Visual
Analysis Paper • Aphasia by Steve Nissen • I chose this article based on the design side of the article. All of my student publication project I tried to focus on the visuals, design, and art side of everything. Art being something that I really love it made it easy for me to do this analysis paper. • Challenge: Writing more of an analysis of the paper and keeping my point of view out of the paper.
Profile Paper • Interviewed Mark Witherspoon, editorial advisor • Had a great experience doing this! I have never interviewed someone for a paper and this was an awesome experience. • Got a job offer! • Because of this….
Visual Mark Witherspoon • Asked me to do caricatures/political cartoons for their opinion section of the newspaper. • Never thought I would have a job opportunity through a English class project.
Purpose • To draw your eyes to the art, and to the advertisement. • Make it more enjoyable and fun to look at for the audience.
Position • To create a visual that one makes you wonder what it is, but also clear enough to where it is not too difficult to understand.
Audience • For Iowa State Students, staff, and anybody that reads the Iowa State Daily. • Also for anybody interested in a job for the newspaper.

Conclusion • What I learned: I learned my strengths and weaknesses in writing and projects. I learned that I struggled with the analysis in keeping my point of view out of the paper. I thought the profile was a great experience with the interview and job opportunity that I have. And the visual was awesome! I love art and that was my favorite part of this assignment. It was fun to do a project that is a little different than other classes. It was fun to interact with people and get more than one view on things.
