Standards • State Standard 4.4: Analyze necessary components of a healthy, safe and stimulating environment during the infant and toddler stages. • State Standard 5.4: Analyze necessary components of a healthy, safe and stimulating environment during preschool years. • State Standard 6.4: Analyze necessary components of a healthy, safe and stimulating environment during middle childhood. • State Standard 7.4: Analyze necessary components of a healthy, safe and stimulating environment during adolescence.

  4. Objectives • TSW define Developmentally Appropriate Practices • TSW investigate a lesson and analyze ways the lesson teach children. • TSW apply knowledge of DAP when creating a developmentally appropriate activity.

Take your sheet and materials with you.

Plastic Apples • New Groups! • Group 1: Courtney, Kendra, Paige, Jessica • Group 2: Kentoria, Jennifer, Heather, Eh Kmwe Paw • Group 3: Ashley H., Danielle, Raquel, Tequilla • Group 4: Ashley C., William, Kasia, Kaitlyn • Group 5: Jenessa, Marien, Ashley W., Taylor, Hailey • New Contest! • Pass around the plastic apple. Make a list of as many things a child could learn from the plastic apple.

Make a list of as many things a child could learn from the plastic apple.

DAP • What does DAP stand for? • Developmentally appropriate activities • What does DAP mean? • an approach to education that focuses on the child as a developing human being and life long learner. • This approach recognizes the child as an active participant in the learning process; a participant who constructs meaning and knowledge through interaction with others, friends and family, materials and environment. • The teacher is an active facilitator.

How could you change the activity to include younger and older age groups? • What social learning will a child have from this activity? • What emotional learning will a child have from this activity? • What physical learning will a child have from this activity? • What Intellectual learning will a child have from this activity?
