  1. Performance (bN, H and fbs) of RS-AT plasmas in C-Mod Dale Meade, Paul Bonoli, Charles Kessel, … Alcator C-Mod Ideas Forum MIT December 2-6, 2004

  2. Performance (bN, H and fbs) of RS-AT Plasmas Background: • RS AT regimes are expected to lead to higher bN, H and fbs • Motivation for LHCD Upgrade Project • Critical for AT modes in Burning Plasma experiments Purpose: • explore a range of RS-AT scenarios similar to ACCOME simulations in LHCD Upgrade proposal • Use LHCD control of the current profile and IRCF heating control of the pressure profile to explore RS-AT regimes. References: • R. R. Parker Presentation to C-Mod PAC Feb 23, 2004 • Alcator C-Mod LHCD Upgrade Proposal • Alcator C-Mod Five Year Plan

  3. Performance (bN, H and fbs) of RS-AT Plasmas General Plan of Execution: • aim toward RS-AT Profiles described in the LHCD proposal (next slide) Conditions • with ICRF ~5 MW and LHCD ~2 MW for phase 2 of 2004 campaign • B ~ 4 T, Ip ~ 0.8 MA, ne(0) ~ 1020 m-3 Use Ip Ramp to Create RS profile • grow plasma radius during ramp current, and initiate ICRF heating and LHCD during the ramp to create desired q profile at the beginning of the flat top. Use LHCD to sustain current profile during the flat top (ICRF MCCD later) Use ACCOME/TSC to identify specific target scenarios Compare discharge evolution with TSC and TRANSP predictions/analysis
